The Lacerta Files are a real, named, traceable document: an anonymous transcript, first circulated online in December 1999 and expanded in April 2000, presenting itself as an interview conducted in rural Sweden with a reptilian entity calling herself “Lacerta.” In it, Lacerta describes her species as Earth-native, having evolved from small bipedal saurians that survived the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs roughly 65 million years ago, following a war with a rival humanoid species over resources. She describes her people as reclusive, technologically advanced, and largely uninterested in human affairs — explicitly stating that renegade factions, not her species as a whole, are responsible for any predatory behavior toward humans, and that she does not claim her people secretly run human governments, banks, or media. That specific claim — of covert reptilian control over “elite corruption,” “media & corporations,” and “religious dogma” — does not appear in the Lacerta Files. It has been grafted onto the Lacerta name from a separate and much more consequential source.

Where the “hidden elite” framing actually comes from.

The idea that a secretive non-human bloodline controls world governments, banking, and media was popularized in its modern form by David Icke beginning in the 1990s. Icke has repeatedly cited and defended The Protocols of the Elders of Zion — a fabricated document, produced by Russian secret police around 1903, that falsely claimed to record a Jewish plot to control world finance and media, and that was later used as core propaganda by the Nazi regime to justify the Holocaust. Icke’s own public statements describe a “genetic network” of interbreeding elite bloodlines controlling the world, and critics — including journalists, academics, and Jewish advocacy organizations — have extensively documented that his reptilian framing functions as this same conspiracy narrative with reptiles substituted for its original target. The Hopi/Apache material.

Claims that Hopi and Apache oral tradition independently describe underground reptilian beings trace almost entirely to one non-Hopi cryptozoology writer, John Rhodes, who reports unnamed “tribal chiefs” confirming this to him personally.
